Most students interested in medicine never see an operating room until well into college. The Clinical Access Program closes that gap, giving Las Vegas youth genuine, hands-on exposure to sports medicine and surgical careers while they are still deciding who they want to become.
The program runs alongside NBA Summer League, including a Summer League Sports Medicine Series that brings students into the room with working physicians and clinicians.
How the program works
1. Introduction
Students begin with an introduction to anatomy, working with a set of cadavers covering the shoulder, knee, and ankle before they step into the lab.
2. Demonstration
Instruction on navigating the body, the use of real surgical instruments, and the real-life implications of each technique.
3. Execution
Guidance through real surgical implants, examining specimens, and hands-on surgical technique under the supervision of practicing clinicians.
Why it matters
Access is the whole point. A student who has held a surgical instrument and been walked through an implant by a working surgeon has a fundamentally different relationship to a career in medicine than one who has only read about it. For many participants, this is the first time a medical career feels reachable rather than theoretical.
